My Mommy Style Embrace The Mom You Are

My Mommy Style Embrace The Mom You Are: When I had my first child in 2007, I figured I would be that mom who was always perfectly put together. In my head, the word mom and stylish didn’t belong in the same sentence, so I went out of my way to dress casually and downplay my femininity when out and about with my baby girl. Now that it’s 2017, however, I can look back at 10 years of motherhood and laugh at how far I have come in embracing this new role in my life.
What is your personal style?
I like to think of my personal style as a combination of comfort, femininity, and versatility. I love wearing dresses with flats or sandals and adding a cardigan for an extra layer of warmth. I’m always looking for those perfect jeans that fit me just right but are also comfortable enough to wear all day. When it comes to accessories, I go for classic pieces like pearl earrings, pearl necklaces, and a simple gold watch.
It’s so important to embrace the mom you are, even if you’re in your first trimester or well into your third. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to maternity clothes, so be sure to try on several different styles and find what works best for you.
When dressing for a daytime event, I recommend throwing on some lipstick, slipping into some heels, and accessorizing with a statement necklace. For nights out, denim shorts will never let you down! Wear them with a chiffon blouse or printed top and heeled sandals. After giving birth and nursing your baby, there’s nothing better than putting on stretchy pants while watching TV while feeding your little one at the same time!
How has your style changed since becoming a mom?
Before I became a mom, I would wear whatever was clean and it didn’t really matter. Now, I spend more time picking out my clothes because they have to be functional as well as comfortable. As a mom of two little girls, my style has changed quite a bit. There’s no more wearing heels now my go-to shoe is sneakers or flats with a comfy heel. I always try to dress my kids in the same color so that we can match.
I always try to keep an extra change of clothes in the car so that when I need them, I can quickly swap for one of their outfits instead of having to wait for someone else.
At night when we’re getting ready for bed, it’s usually me who brushes their teeth first before changing into our pajamas so that there’s less crying from the baby.
What do you think about fashion and trends?
I’m not much of a fashionista. I can dress up if I have to, but I’m more likely to wear my yoga pants and a t-shirt or hoodie. But when it comes to looking good for my kids? My mommy style embrace the mom you are! With three kids under 5, there’s never a time when I feel like I look my best. And that’s ok! It’s just part of being a mom right now. Instead of feeling bad about it, I just embrace the mom I am. No matter what jeans I’m wearing or whether my hair is in pigtails or curls this is me, this is what it means to be a mother right now.
And I don’t need to worry about what other people think because, at the end of the day, this is who I am. Sure, sometimes I would love nothing more than to put on a pair of sweatpants and curl up with some coffee watching Netflix all day long (well…maybe not all day long). That’s okay too. Because every once in a while, my mommy style embraces that mom you are too.
How does your family fit into your personal style?
I like to wear a lot of dresses and skirts, but I still always make sure to have a few jeans in my closet. I also try to find shirts that are flattering for my chest size. If I don’t feel like wearing any makeup, I will at least put on some chapstick or lip gloss because most days I am running around with two kids and it’s nice to feel pretty even if you don’t have time for anything else.
My husband usually wears slacks and a polo shirt so we often coordinate our outfits when we go out together. And I never leave the house without a scarf. My mommy style is all about embracing who you are as a mom – whether that’s dressed up or down!
When I’m going to work, I dress up, but my clothes might be more casual than what I would normally wear if I wasn’t working. When it comes to getting ready for the day, sometimes being quick and easy can be better than fussing over your appearance. It really comes down to how you want your day to start off!
What advice would you give other moms about finding their own personal style?
Finding your personal style is not an easy thing to do. It takes time, patience, and a lot of self-reflection. I am still working on my own personal style but at the same time, I’m embracing my mommy style. There are days when I wear a dress, put on some lipstick, and make sure my hair looks good. On other days, I have zero makeup on and am wearing yoga pants with messy hair that has never seen a brush in its life. My kids think I look like crap, but really I am embracing who I’ve become.
When you’re going through this process, it’s important to know that you don’t need to be the perfect mother all of the time. In fact, it’s ok if you don’t like who you are sometimes because it will help you better understand yourself and what makes YOU happy. And by the way, being a mom doesn’t mean you can’t feel sexy too. Love your body just as much as you love being a mom!
