Old Grannies Are Awesome

Old grannies are incredible human beings, and they deserve your respect and admiration. Throughout the course of history, old grannies have accomplished so much, not just in the field of science but also in the arts and humanities. Here are just some of the reasons old grannies are awesome…
Old grannies have respect
Grannies have nothing to prove. They don’t have to stay at their job a minimum number of years in order to collect a big, fat pension. They don’t have to earn more than their peers. And they’re free from trying to land that next promotion. They are not beholden to anything or anyone else but themselves and their family (if they choose). Their careers are self-directed rather than dictated by others or circumstances beyond their control.
Old grannies are wise
As if being grandmothers isn’t already adorable enough, a new study finds that old grannies – women in their 80s and 90s – are more likely to be active and independent than millennials. In fact, they live almost two years longer on average than millennials do. They also reported fewer health issues such as migraines and joint pain, something their millennial counterparts are dealing with at twice their rate. Maybe because old grannies know how to respect their bodies?
Old grannies understand consequences
One of my favorite things about having old grannies around is that they know better than to do stupid things. They’ve lived longer, so they understand consequences better and tend to be more careful about what they do and say. If you need a wise friend or mentor, look for an old granny—she may not be as spry as she used to be, but her experience and accumulated wisdom will make her infinitely more useful than your average 20-something.
Old grannies are masters of making decisions
they’ve been around long enough to have learned a thing or two about living life on their own terms. So, whether it’s how to dress, how to treat others, or where to travel next (they were also travelers in their youth!), they know what works and what doesn’t. Learn from their secrets for having fun later in life.
Old grannies can give great advice
My granny always used to say that if you’re going to do something, make sure you do it right. I never really understood what she meant by that when I was younger, but now as an adult, I totally get it. My grandmother loved doing things thoroughly and well—and she wasn’t afraid of taking her time to accomplish her goals either.

Respect your elders!
You may have heard that old people are useless, and maybe even kind of annoying. They might drive too slowly, take up too much space on public transit, and make eye contact for a little too long. Those things are all true; however, what’s also true is that they possess secrets to life you could only dream of knowing. Don’t be rude and dismissive—pay attention! We promise they’re worth it!
